About us

A language company that had to become an engineering company.

Not a strategy deck. The volume our clients needed could not be met by hiring more people, so we built the system instead — and then discovered that the system was as valuable as the service.

401 N Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL

How we got here

Sixteen years, one city.

2009

Linguanational is founded in Chicago

Janie Markos starts the company as a language services provider, working with local institutions where accuracy is not negotiable.

2010s

Institutional work becomes the core

School districts, healthcare organizations and legal teams — clients with compliance obligations, audit trails and calendars that do not move.

2024

The partnership with Flix Translations Group LLC

Flix Translations Group brings an engineering team and a production AI platform. Linguanational stops being a company that buys technology and becomes one that builds it.

Today

Two practices under one roof

The language business runs on the platform we built. The engineering team that built it now takes on AI work for other organizations across Chicago.

Leadership

Founded and led by Janie Markos.

Janie Markos founded Linguanational in 2009 and has led it since, through the shift from a traditional language services provider to a firm that builds and operates its own technology.

In 2024 she brought Flix Translations Group LLC into the business — the partnership that gave Linguanational an engineering team and, with it, a second practice.expand with bio + leadership team

How we work

Four positions we have not been talked out of.

Measure it or don't claim it

Numbers on this site come from a live production endpoint. We would rather publish an unflattering figure than an unverifiable one.

The honest 'no'

Some processes should not be automated, and some AI projects should not be funded. We say so during discovery, when it still saves you money.

Ugly data is the real data

Scans, mixed languages, five-year-old templates, tables across three pages. If a system only works on clean input, it does not work.

The people doing the work are here

Chicago-based team, in your time zone. In an engagement you talk to the engineers and linguists, not only to an account manager.

In production right now

The platform, in numbers we do not control.

These come straight from the live system. They move on their own.
